Paying more than you should for ADT? Learn about options to reduce your bill
According to the Better Business Bureau, ADT has 5,517 complaints lodged against them of which over 1,000 have to do with billing problems.
At FairShake we have helped customers deal with similar ADT complaints.
Maybe, ADT customer service misled you. This happens when a representative promises a discount or promotion that they never follow through with when it comes time to bill you. In other cases, a representative might fail to tell you that the discount is only valid for a specific length of time, usually the first year of your contract, after which the price goes up.
This is why it’s important to check your monthly bill from ADT. The first step in finding a way to reduce your monthly cost is to make sure that there are no errors. Look over the fine print of your bill and verify every line item. You should be able to comfortably look at a bill and know exactly what every item is and why it is charged to your account.
If there is a mistake, maybe you were charged twice for the same service or you didn’t get a rebate, don’t hesitate to reach out to customer service as soon as you can and ask them to rectify the situation.
If everything looks right with your bill, consider scaling back your services. ADT offers a range of services and you don’t necessarily need all the extra decals for every window in your home or additional cameras. You might be able to still save on your homeowners insurance and keep your property secure with basic monitoring services.
Reach out to ADT at 1 (800) 521-1734 and let them know you are considering moving services or scaling back. You can ask to be transferred to the customer loyalty department or the customer retention department where a representative will work with you to try and keep you as a customer. Remain calm and simply explain that your bill is no longer affordable. Ask them what they can do at the company to help you lower your monthly bill.
You might be surprised to find that these representatives can offer discounts and promotions that might not be available to existing customers or that might not be listed to the public. This is a great way to avoid cancellation fees or early termination fees.
At any given time ADT has special offers and some discounts.
For example, as of the time of writing:
If you are an active duty military member, you can go through USAA to get a discount on your ADT Home Security service as a new homeowner. You get 10% off the installation costs and 10% off your monthly monitoring charges so long as you take out a contract at a minimum of 36 months or 24 months in California.
If ADT Home Security owes you money in the form of a rebate, prorated cancellation fees, or issues to your bill that have been purportedly fixed, it can be incredibly frustrating when you don’t see those measures apply to your account immediately. There are lawsuits against ADT, but thankfully, you don’t have to go that far.
