How to understand your phone bill from AT&T

Accessing and reviewing your bill

There are two ways you can view your AT&T invoice. This can be done online or through the app. Be sure to have your username and password ready to gain access if you are viewing the invoice online.

There are a couple of things you should keep in mind when reviewing your bill. If it is your first bill, it will most likely be higher than your next bill for the following reasons:

  1. AT&T charges for the first full month of service in advance. (Therefore the second month’s service is normally included.)
  2. If you begin service during the middle of the month, then there is a prorated charge for the time when your phone was in use. Remember that you should be charged only for when the plan or feature was active in the account.
  3. There also may be activation fees and equipment charges.

What’s included in your bill

Note: Keep in mind that AT&T charges for next month’s bill in advance.

Here’s everything you can expect to see in your bill:

  1. Rate plan charges for data, voice, and messaging services
  2. Data and/or messaging packages
  3. Additional services, like mobile insurance
  4. Taxes, surcharges, and fees
  5. Applicable Discounts
  6. Balance Adjustments: This is the amount for charges that are still owed from your previous bill. The online tool permits you to view these balance adjustments
  7. Account Charges: This is the amount charged to the entire account. Some examples include a late fee or past due balance
  8. Late Payment Charge
  9. Tax Charges
  10. There still may be some discrepancies. AT&T offers a tool that allows you to compare your last bill to your current bill. Simply go to the My Bill page. You may view up to 16 previous bills. Simply scroll and select Payments > More Payment History

If you are calling directly from your wireless number simply dial 611.

If you are unsure how much of your service plan is being used, you may keep track of your AT&T data usage online or by phone

  • Phone: *3282# from your AT&T wireless number
  • Online: Go to the Billing & Usage section in your myAT&T account
