How to Cancel Your Account with AT&T UVerse

To cancel your service:

• Call customer service 800.288.2020.
• Have your account number and personal identification number (PIN) on hand.

Once you are talking to a representative, they will explain the steps based on your account. If you have to return any equipment, they will give you a document for shipping concerns. If AT&T owes you money, you will get your refund within 60 days, but if you owe AT&T then you will be charged immediately. 

Note: If you call outside of regular business hours, then your request won’t go through until the next business day. 

Alternatives to Cancellation

There are multiple alternatives to cancellation. 

• If you are going to move, there are options to move your service to your new address if AT&T UVerse is available in your new location, and if you want to continue. 
• If the cost of your bill is too high, there are ways to change your service instead. 
• In some cases, you might also consider temporarily suspending your service which is good for situations where you might be on business for a few months. 

However, if you are ready to cancel your service, you contact AT&T customer service or submit an online cancel request 

Note: Only the account owner is allowed to cancel any AT&T UVerse service. 

Cancellation Terms

AT&T UVerse often provides promotions under which you can sign up for services. However, many of these come with the added string of requiring a contract. So, if you decide to cancel before the contract is complete, then you will face early termination penalties from AT&T. 

If you sign up with AT&T UVerse and decide to cancel within 14 days of activating your new account, then you can avoid the early termination fees. You can review your AT&T UVerse service agreement which sets out all terms and conditions for the services you have, including early termination fees. 

Moreover, you will be required to send back AT&T UVerse equipment. If you do not send it back on time (within 21 days), then you will be charged for it. You can bring your account number and a cancellation letter with you to return your equipment at a local UPS Store or FedEx® Office.

AT&T UVerse Fees Associated with Cancellation

As mentioned, the two biggest areas for fees are:

1. Early termination fees
2. Failure to return equipment fees

The early termination fee can be $325 or $150 and the failure to return equipment is based on your services. 

Common Disputes and Complaints when Cancelling AT&T UVerse

AT&T has had almost 60,000 complaints filed against them in the last three years, 14,000 of which have to do with billing problems. Customers who have tried to cancel their service have complained about things like:

• High cancellation charges
• Not being told their account has a cancellation fee
• Being overcharged after cancelling

However, out of all of these, the biggest issue is the early termination fee. There are many customers who do not realize that they signed up with AT&T UVerse as part of a promotion that had a contract. Other people just don’t expect an early termination fee at all because it was not made clear to them when they signed up for AT&T UVerse.
