How to Get Better Bank of America Customer Service

Bank of America is one of the largest banks in America, having made a name for itself for decades as one of the largest providers especially for regular checking and savings accounts. The company works very hard to provide good customer service and make sure that their customers are satisfied. That said, they have a lot of different ways that you can reach out if you have a problem or question. 

Below we’ve outlined the multiple ways that you can get a hold of them.

Find the best contact method for you:

Bank of America Website

It is best that you send an email directly through the website, once you are logged in to your account. This gives you a secure and encrypted connection and links your issue to your account so a representative can see it easily. You can start by logging in and visiting https://www.bankofamerica.com/customer-service/contact-us/ to find the right department for your concern. 

Bank of America App/Chat

You can log in to your Bank of America app on your phone and from there navigate to the “help” and “contact us” sections along the right hand side and top of the account page to send a message. 

For real time help, you can select the chat function (again, so long as you are logged in) and this will connect you with a representative. This chat should be available from the website or the app, so long as you are logged in.

Social Media

They are pretty fast to respond to social media inquiries. You can use their Twitter help section at @BofA_Help, or send a private message through Facebook Messenger, or you can send feedback directly through the Bank of America website.

Bear in mind they only have representatives available Mon–Fri: 8 a.m.-9 p.m. ET, Sat: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. ET, and Sun: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. ET. 

When you send a private message they ask that you include:

  • your name, 
  • ZIP code, 
  • phone number, 
  • Inquiry,
  • best time to contact you

Never include account numbers or Social Security numbers for security reasons. Make sure too, that if you reach the point where you need to supply such information that you are only doing so through your verified accounts, not on social media.

What you should bring to the table in order to get the best customer service possible

When you contact Bank of America customer support, especially when you are talking to a live agent, make sure that you are prepared.

    1. Be signed into your account on a computer so that your phone is free for the phone call. Have any important information about the situation on hand and ready to discuss.
    2. Have a notepad so that you can write down important information like the names of the people with whom you spoke and what departments they work in.
    3. Before you dive into a story about what your problem is and what you want the company to do to fix it, make sure you’re speaking to the right department first. You don’t want to, in one long breath, share a 2-minute story of what your problem is only to find out that you were speaking to someone in the wrong department.
    4. Write down any proposed solutions that are offered to you and the timelines for implementation. You need this information so that you can follow up later if those promises are unfulfilled.
    5. Remember that if you are not satisfied with the solution or your concerns weren’t properly addressed, you can always ask to speak to a supervisor. Also remember that customer service agents are different and they’re all people just like you so if one person isn’t open to helping you, you might be able to get satisfactory help from someone else. Just tell the first representative that you want their full name and you are going to file a complaint against them because of the experience.
    6. If nothing is done to fix the problem file a dispute with a supervisor or manager and then follow up by sending a letter to the corporate address listed above.
