Complaint Details:

Date of Complaint: February 17, 2021

Company Official Name: CITIBANK, N.A.

State: WA

Product: Checking or savings account
Sub-Product: Checking account

Issue: Managing an account
Sub-Issue: Funds not handled or disbursed as instructed

Full Complaint:
I signed up for a CitiBank checking and savings account via a direct link from their website for a promotion that provided {0.00} for depositing {000.00} across checking+savings and leaving this deposited for two months. I deposited the required funding on XX/XX/XXXX, {00.00} to checking and {000.00} to savings, for a total of {000.00}. These funds were left alone for over two months.

Prior to relocating any funds, I called CitiBank customer service to confirm that I had met the promotional requirements of the sign-up bonus. CitiBank customer service confirmed on XX/XX/XXXX that I had met the promotional requirements on XX/XX/XXXX by leaving {000.00} deposited for 2 months and would receive my promotional deposit soon. The customer service agent confirmed that withdrawing below {000.00} would not affect my {0.00} bonus, although I would have an account fee if I withdrew below {000.00} due to account type. After confirming this with CitiBank customer service, I used funds to make purchases, but still left an excess of the required {000.00} to avoid account maintenance fees.

Today on XX/XX/XXXX, I called to check on my promotional deposit, as it has been over two months. I spoke with 3 different representatives, waiting on hold for over an hour, and got three different answers. One representative from CitiBank now claims that I opened the ” wrong ” account, and that this promotional bonus never applied to my account, despite the fact that I applied directly through the CitiBank website, and I had previously confirmed with CitiBank representatives that my account qualified. The CitiBank representative refused to correct the issue, escalate to superior, or file an internal memo.

I would like to receive the {0.00} promotional signup bonus as per the terms of the initial agreement that was completed on XX/XX/XXXX and that was confirmed by CitiBank on XX/XX/XXXX.

On XX/XX/2020, I sent Citi Bank a dispute letter ( see attachment ), attached is the tracking status showing that they received it on XX/XX/2020. Which they never responded back to that letter within 30 days. Which is a violation of Federal Law. Attached is a copy of my XXXX and XXXX credit report dated XX/XX/2020, which shows that Citi Bank is reporting the account as charge off account and balance of {0.00}. The address I sent the disputed letter to is the address on the XXXX credit report for that account. Citi Bank received my disputed letter on XX/XX/2020 ( see attachment ). They violated the Federal Law because they were required by law to notify the credit bureaus within 30 days and add a statement to my credit report within 30 days that says I have disputed the above item in question, attached you will find a copy of my XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXXand XX/XX/XXXX credit reports dated XX/XX/2020 ( 31 days after Citi received my disputed letter ). Which shows that Citi Bank violated the law when they didnt put the statement on my credit report that I disputed the account with Citi Bank on my credit report within 30 days. I am requesting the help of CFPB to hold Citi Bank accountable for violating Federal Law and have them delete the item in question from all three of my credit report because they failed to follow the Federal Law or I will proceed with a lawsuit in Federal court.

Company Official Name: CITIBANK, N.A.

State: PA

Product: Credit card or prepaid card
Sub-Product: General-purpose credit card or charge card

Issue: Fees or interest
Sub-Issue: Charged too much interest

Full Complaint:
I opened this card to take advantage of a 0.00 % interest of a balance transfer. Any other purchases outside of this transfer amount I understand, is subject to the 22 % interest as a ” standard purchase. ” On XXXX I made a {00.00} standard purchase and on the same day made a {00.00} payment to go against that. The following statements show that my standard purchase balance that is subject to interest is much higher than it should be. Citi applied my {00.00} payment against the 0.00 % balance transfer amount and I am now being charged interest again a standard purchase balance I’ve already paid for.

When calling Citi I advised that my balance subject to interest ( standard purchase ) is over by {00.00} and that the {00.00} purchase I made was paid for the same day I made the purchase. The rep on the phone even advised me that when a payment is made it is allocated to whatever balance has the highest APR. What they are doing is benefiting on more interest by taking the {00.00} purchase I made an putting it towards the Standard purchase balance that is subject to all the interest accrued.

Citi refused to fix this and stated that to avoid getting interest I should stop using the card.

Company Official Name: CITIBANK, N.A.

State: CA

Product: Mortgage
Sub-Product: Conventional home mortgage

Issue: Applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage

Full Complaint:
We were in the process of buying a studio apartment and were planning to go with our regular/trusted mortgage broker who had already pre-approved us for the loan we needed to buy this property. The builder however had Citibank mortgage as their pre-approved lender. We were asked by the builder to go with Citi as they would work easier and the approval would smoother and low-risk.

We gave our SSN, paychecks, bank statements, W2, previous year tax document and multiple other documents – Our interest rate was also locked and at that time we gave a 5 % non-refundable deposit and removed the contingencies. We had a closing period of 60 days.

Now, 3 weeks before closing Citibank has declined our loan application – We were communicating with them as some of the income numbers were missing in their calculations. They suddenly decided to send a notice of cancellation which has left me with the risk of losing the deposit money, I have already sold several items from my departure property.

I would have gone with my preferred lender if I was lead to believe by both Citibank and my builder that I had to go with them.

Full Complaint:
I am the holder of a SEARS credit card under account # XXXX since XXXX and have a current balance of approximately {0.00}.

Without my consent or permission SEARS took the liberty to issue a ” SHOP YOUR WAY ” Mastercard from CITIBANK and I only knew of this change a few days ago when I received the actual card in the mail. The mailing stated that ” this new card replaces your Sears Card. Please destroy your Sears Card ( s ) as it is no longer valid. ” It is obvious that SEARS and CITIBANK co-conspired to dupe customers as follows : SEARS had a long list of card holders with financial information as to their credit worthiness and CITIBANK was provided that list to issue credit cards for their benefit by calling it a ” replacement card ” when in actuality ” SHOP YOUR WAY ” is a Mastercard that can be used anywhere, not just in SEARS stores or online shopping.

I do not want the ” SHOP YOUR WAY ” Mastercard as I am already a holder of a Citibank Mastercard and have maintained this account for a number of years. I find that SEARS and CITIBANK conspired to arbitrarily issue credit cards to consumers who didn’t apply and this is simply a scam.
