Full Complaint:
Our boss sent an email ( it was actually a scammer who hacked into her email ) and asked to get 3 gift cards and call and give the numbers to her client who was waiting. She was unable to do it herself at the moment because she was involved in a conference call. She said she would reimburse the cost. She needed 3 separate {0.00} gift cards. we used our Discover card for two {0.00} cards. Discover called to ask if we made that purchase which we did. Later that afternoon our boss notified all employees that she had been hacked and to not respond. Unfortunately, several people in the company had already responded.
We do have a Police report. The purchase was made at XXXX using our Discover card. We talked to Discover and they basically said sorry you made the purchase but had your card been stolen … so because we are honest and not lying about a stolen card we do not get refunded the money. Discover has numerous farad/theft protection safeguards in place. They have huge buying power and influence. They could dispute charges with XXXX. I feel they have numerous more avenues of recovery than the average consumer. Providing a Police report should be enough to gain some or all restitution. They basically said there was nothing they could do.
