In XX/XX/XXXX a fraudulent charge of {00.00} appeared on my Synchrony Bank XXXX statement. I informed XXXX about this in writing and paid for MY charges in full. In XX/XX/XXXX another fraudulent charge of {00.00} from the same merchant appeared on my statement. Again I informed XXXX and paid for MY charges in full. Starting with the XX/XX/XXXX statement and every statement since then, Sync has assessed interest on the unpaid fraudulent charges. Additionally, since XX/XX/XXXX a recurring fraudulent XXXX charge has appeared on my monthly statements. I have informed Sync in writing every month of these issues. In XX/XX/XXXX, in my XXXX to Sync, I requested that my account be closed. However, I received a XXXX statement with more XXXX charges and more interest assessed, and the account was not closed. The balance on the XX/XX/XXXX statement is {.00} and consists entirely of interest charges assessed on unpaid fraudulent amounts. The fraudulent charges were acknowledged by XXXX, however, the interest charged on those unpaid fraudulent amounts was never reversed, Every month the unpaid interest is carried forward and more is added. At this point I am so frustrated with Synchrony I will pay the {.00} wrongfully assessed interest on fraudulent charges just to be done with this bank.

Company Official Name: SYNCHRONY FINANCIAL

Product: Debt collection
Sub-Product: Credit card debt
Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Sub-Issue: Debt was result of identity theft
Full Complaint:
I received a letter from a debt collector XX/XX/XXXX stating I owed {00.00} for charge with Synchrony Bank for a purchase from XXXX XXXX XXXX. I never heard of this prior and did not see anything alarming on my credit information by my three credit accounts through XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX and XXXX. I sent a return certified letter requesting more insight for this alleged charge. XXXX XXXX XXXX returned a few statement copies reflecting my name with the address of a XXXX XXXX XXXX about thirty miles away from my current residence. I did own a home nine miles from that area until XXXX, but it seemed coincidence.
Today, XX/XX/XXXX, I looked deeper into the XXXX XXXX credit information with TransUnion that indicated there was a credit inquiry by Synchrony Bank on XX/XX/XXXX. It was about the time I made a purchase from CARID for tires and wheels for $ XXXX I actually took a three payment offer through Affirm that was paid off early. Originally I thought the whole ordeal was taken off my name only, but now that I see the bank made a connection on my SSN, this is deeper fraud including identity theft.
