AT&T Claim for Compensation

What AT&T did:
AT&T internet failed. Buffering persisted over hours last night, April 14th, when I tried to work on a manuscript. Work needed to get done. This morning, April 15th, I called AT&T. Was on phone with them from 8:45am until just now, 11am. Issue finally resolved. I asked for compensation for my time, which was considerable. They offered me $3.00!
Second issue: If I leave AT&T and it is after my month begins, I am charged for a whole month. They will not charge just for the time used. I think that may be illegal.
