What Wells Fargo did:
On 4-21-21 added savings account with the purpose of depositing a settelment check issued on behalf of the Canadian Government. The check was submitted for 21,000 CAD which was converted to appox 16,0000 USD. The check cleared and was posted on 4-22-21. On 5-03-21 was informed by Wells Fargo that a stop payment was issued and they had to buy back at a lower rate causing savings account that was never used to go into negitive amount for over 1000.00. I contacted the issuer of the check and they stated that the check should have never had shown it was stopped. They said they would contact Wells Fargo to resend for payment. I contacted wells fargo to inform them they could call and verify it was never stopped and they could resend, they informed me that they do not do this and they go through 3rd party bank for international checks. They stated a new check would have to be issued and I would be responsible to pay back the 1000 dollars. I don’t know if it’s a shame with them and the 3rd party bank but they are demanding 1000 dollars for a check that was “according from the bank manager” was verified by then and somehow 12 days later considered stopped which it wasn’t. I have been watching the CAD to USD conversion and its easily seachable that in the past few months it has held steady at .80. So if they get a much lower rate with their bank they utilize for foreign transactions they should be liable for the diffrence, especially if the funds are verified and put in customer account. Wells Fargo has not had the best track record when it has come to falsely claming fees and demanding payment.
What would you like the company to do to fix the problem?
Either resubmit original check they claim to have been stopped and remove all charges including bogus conversion that resulted in account to go negitive over 1000.00 or zero out account and wait for new check to be issued.
