Suntrust Bank Locked My Account

What Suntrust Bank did:
So a few weeks ago, my husbands grandmother passed away. His grandfather gave us a cashiers check for 3000$. We took it to my bank to deposit because we burned through most of our income to see the family and tend to funeral needs. We called the bank to see if they were going to hold the funds and they said no. I informed them if they were going to, to just cancel the deposit and we would take it elsewhere. They said no worries. They held the check for 10 days. We called and went in person to deal w/ the issue and they said that we could cash it elsewhere and they would either cancel it or let it come back bounced and we would be charged a fee. I need to make it clear we absolutely had to have that money .waiting was not an option as we were in desperate need. Suntrust bank closed the account and said they had they claimed the funds, but that in order to have it released, my husband and i had to bring ID and a letter from my husband saying the funds were for his benefit. We brought all of that to them. When it came time to release the funds, they say they never had them and that the bank that issues the cashiers check recalled the funds for it being a duplicate. We called the bank that issued the check. They only have 9 branches and they were very helpful. No funds were recalled. They sent documented proof that suntrust is the bank with the funds. I havea recording from me speaking w/ suntrust of them responding to a comment when i mentioned legal action of them telling us and i quote ” you will be tied up in litigation until your grand children are out of diapers. It won’t get you anywhere.”. This is illegal. Im not uneducated. I have a masters degree in social work. I know with documented evidence, this is illegal. I did nothing wrong. The bank who issued the check even stated they have no wrong doing on my part.
add to my previously sent message, i just got off the phone with the bank that issued the cashiers check. She called suntrust to get ahold of their returns department to ask for clarity and she was told she could not speak with them. She tried to offer check tracking and to prove it through the federal reserve tracking number that suntrust does have the funds. She was informed she could not do so. SHe was told that i had to call to talk to a banker assigned to my account, but when i call suntrust, i am not permitted to know his name or speak with him. This is a crime.

What would you like the company to do to fix the problem?

i want my money back plus compensation.
