What Credit One did:
My Credit One bank card has been a nightmare. I was in the hospital for a week in April 2021 recovering from an 8-hour surgery. I was obviously preoccupied and my autopay used the wrong debit card. My minimum payment was only $35 and I could easily pay that. (I am a high school math teacher making about 5k a month). Once I was home from the hospital, I saw the payment got returned. So I immediately logged into Credit one to pay the $35.
They closed my account! Not only that, they suspended my online access. I have severe anxiety disorder and ADHD and have trouble with making phone calls. Without being able to access my account online, I couldn’t pay them.
Then they started calling me 10x a day. I was so scared I kept trying to block them but they’d call me from different area codes. I had to block calls on my phone completely. I’ve missed so many important calls from friends and family because of this. This went on for 5 months.
They now marked me 180 days late on my credit report. I’ve never missed a payment from any of my creditors before. Now my credit was ruined over 35 dollars a month and I still couldn’t access my account to pay them.
After complaining to them multiple times, they reopened my account in October 2021. I then immediately made my account current. They now act like nothing happened, but I now have 5 late payments on my report that brought my score down over 100 points.
They have made those 5 months of my life from April to October 2021 miserable all while I was still recovering from surgery. Hundreds of phone calls from different numbers during that time, constant harassment, and the damage to my report.
Unfortunately, I became so depressed after this that I started making late payments on everything else in December 2021. I just gave up because Credit One already ruined my credit.
The impact of this is so far reaching.
Any help would be so appreciated.
What would you like the company to do to fix the problem?
Remove the 5 late payments from my report between April 2021 and October 2021.
I’m not sure if I can get compensation, but fixing my report is the priority.
