What Airbnb did:
icon, brickell, {{ address hidden }}, host name sam, 202-594-5764. Reservation was made for 4/20 through 4/25, totally 2542.50 horrible follow through from host but we worked those issues out with a 45min delay in accessing the property.

Once we were authorized access to the unit, upon our inspection the quality of the space was very poor.

Mattress did not have protection cover, mattress was extremely soiled with just a sheet covering the soiled furniture, bathroom was dirty, baseboard falling down behind toilet, holes in walls, tub molded, just unclean. Room had strong smell of cigarette smoke as if some one just left out, furniture was worn and torn. Felt like unit was not cleaned or cared for in some time.

We immediately walked out, texted the host to share the concern and experience, text was sent less than 10mins after gaining access to the unit, I notified the front desk to remove our access from the building because we were uncomfortable in the unit.

My text message to the host was ignored, so the next morning I sent him a message through the Airbnb portal of which the host acknowledged and responded to, I also requested assistance from Airbnb which they acknowledged and responded to, but no one followed through. The host sent subsequent messages as if I was still in the unit and Airbnb never reached out to assist further. when airbnd finally decided to look into the matter, it was delay after delay, request for the same information over and over, they finally responded today to say, the host is not willing to assist! why would they be! they have a 2500.00 profit for services they did not provide. airbnb didn’t challenge them in any way on my behalf. i would have felt better if they would have challenged the cleaning fee, taxes, maybe charged me 2 nights, once the host acknowledged the complaint why was i still obligated to pay for the balance of the stay for a unit I left immediately upon arrival.
