Airbnb Claim for Compensation
What Airbnb did:
I booked a carriage house for 3 nights on Airbnb in Washington DC which has five star rating and great reviews. I arrived late at night and when we (my family of 4)are doing self checkin and trying to open the entrance door, we noticed something smells gross.
After entering, we decided to go and enjoy DC’s famous night tours. Coming back into the house, we noticed more bad smells and found out my daughter stepped on some bad stuff. Then we washed her shoes and went to bed.
Early next morning, I decided to take a close look at outside. When I open the door, I noticed unbearable smell and I saw garbage bins laying around very close to the door and some bad things on the ground. I think that’s what my daughter stepped on the night before.
I then immediately contacted the host and asking for cancellation and refund of the next two nights due to the hazardous situation. The host asked me to contact Airbnb. I then called Airbnb and sent some pictures to customer support. Customer support contacted the host and both Airbnb and the host refused to give full refund.
My family late on realized that those bad things are dead rodents laying around and it’s definitely a health hazard. I then argued with Airbnb and the host continuesly during my next two days of stay. They still will not agree with cancellation and full refund and only compensated me $19 plus for the day that the city is scheduled to come and pickup garbage.
I truly think that the outside of the listing is a hazardous environment and not good enough for the health of its guests.
I believe they should compensate my family for damages because of the hazardous situation in addition to full refund of our 3 nights stay.
