Sprint Claim for Compensation

What Sprint did:
Absorbed my verizon phones 03/08/2020 approximately when first starting service(one paid for and one still owed money) under the instruction that sprint would pay it off and I would own the new devices after 24 months. That was not the case, almost 3 years later they are still saying the devices have not been paid off. I have since upgraded one of the phones giving back the old one to sprint about 8 months ago and decided to pay off yesterday to unlock it and now they are saying when i called today that I owe them another $500 to unlock the phone.
