If you are cancelling Consumer Cellular because of an unresolved complaint, let us help you file a claim.
Maybe customer service hasn’t been helpful, they have overcharged you, or the service is not not working in your area. No matter the reason, we explain how to cancel your account with Consumer Cellular.
Consumer Cellular is a prepaid wireless provider. Because they are prepaid, you typically don’t have contracts which makes it a lot easier to cancel your account. Consumer Cellular has a somewhat flexible cancellation policy. You are allowed to cancel your agreement at any time, but bear in mind if you do, you will be responsible for any charges. If you have trouble or want to know what your fees are, you can contact Consumer Cellular customer service.
Due to the fact that Consumer Cellular is primarily a prepaid wireless provider, they don’t have the strings of bigger Wireless providers who force you to sign a contract. Sometimes the biggest fee associated with canceling a wireless account or any other service account is the early termination fee because you entered into a contract for a set number of years. That is not the case with Consumer Cellular so it is much easier to close your account.
In order to cancel your service you have to contact customer service over the phone. So, call them at (888) 345-5509.
Once you speak with a representative, let them know that you want to cancel your account. They will help facilitate the process and let you know if you need to send back your device. Should you need to return any devices, they will provide you with a mailing label once your confirmation is complete.
Consumer Cellular does say in the terms and conditions that you will be responsible for any fees when you cancel. However, it doesn’t actually list any fees because this is done on a case-by-case basis.
Consumer Cellular is a prepaid service which means you are not under contract. In this case, you won’t have any fees for canceling your contract early like an early termination fee. In rare cases you might use them to also purchase a wireless device and if you do so you can choose to purchase up front or on an installment plan. Those who have an installment plan might be required to pay for the remaining balance up front when they cancel their service. But other than this Consumer Cellular is very flexible and allows you to cancel your service at any time with no other fees, and reinstate your service down the line.
FairShake has recorded complaints against Consumer Cellular, as have other organizations like the BBB, about account and billing disputes. For example, some customers have incurred multiple fees especially for things like unreturned equipment, when in reality they sent the equipment back according to what customer service told them.
Other customers have had trouble with getting a refund or simply closing their account in the first place. Sometimes customer service is difficult to get ahold of, or the cancellation doesn’t go through, and other times a refund never appears on the account statement like it should.
Whatever the issue, if you have tried to reach out to customer service but with no success, tell us about it today…

They got more done in a few weeks than I did in over two years.

Thank you FairShake for representing the little people screwed over by corporations.
I was having problems with the company for months. That you could make it resolved in a few days is wonderful.
It's not right what Big Business can get away with if we let them. People need to know someone is out there to help!
