Problems with Cox products or service

There are a variety of customer complaints about their quality of service.  The most common complaints are:

  1. Internet speed – Slow speeds, connection drops, and lack of coverage are top concerns shared by customers.  Many customers say that they continue to be billed for internet disruptions even when the service is unusable for weeks.
  2. Equipment not working properly – Customers report that the Cox-supplied modems often don’t work, even after they are replaced.
  3. Poor phone service – Some complaints have been logged due to intermittent phone service where it can cut in and out.
  4. Poor installation support – Customers complain about Cox’s installation practices.  Installers that are scheduled to visit a customer either don’t show up or a customer is not informed that a deposit is required before installation can occur.  Cox will even charge a home installation fee if a consumer sets up a wireless box on their own.

Billing issues

I was being overcharged for 4 extra cable boxes that I didn’t have plus outrageous charges for a regular bill.

Anonymous Complaint

Customers are often unaware that the special deals they sign up for are only available for a limited time.  They aren’t happy when they see the increase in their bill. In other cases, customers aren’t notified about the limitations of the services that they sign up and have to upgrade to a pricier package to get the service level they want.  Customers who cancel their service report that were charged an equipment fee for a modem that was not supplied by Cox. Many were sent to collections when they refused to pay.

Misleading advertising

Customers complain that they are not getting the level of service that was advertised.   Specifically, Cox charges customers for a higher level of internet speed than what they receive. Customers have also lodged grievances against Cox Communications around their advertised “no contract” promotion whereby they were entered into contracts without their knowledge.  A class-action lawsuit was filed in California alleging that Cox misleads consumers with the promise of higher internet speeds with “no contract.”  Yet consumers found themselves entered into contracts and paying for far less internet speed than promised.

If you continue to fight with Cox Communications over billing issues, substandard products, or you just aren’t getting the service you were promised, FairShake may be able to help.  We work with consumers to file claims against Cox Communications to get the service they deserve.
