A certified class of 4,800-plus rideshare drivers in California agreed to settle claims that Uber Technologies Inc. misclassified them as independent contractors rather than employees, according to new federal court filings.
Details of the deal are not yet available. But the agreement will resolve years of litigation in the certified class action, which alleged Uber deliberately classified drivers as contractors to avoid providing certain wages and benefits required by California labor law.
Judge Edward M. Chen of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted the parties’ joint motion to dismiss the case on Tuesday.
