Uber Technologies Inc. will get some claims dismissed from a lawsuit alleging it unfairly dominates the San Francisco taxi market, a federal court in California said Thursday.
DeSoto Cab Co., doing business as Flywheel Taxi, alleges Uber uses a $25 billion “venture capital war chest” to weather losses while undercutting traditional taxis with below-cost prices, all while potential rivals face high barriers to market entry, such as costly rules requiring major investments in insurance and accessibility.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted in part and denied in part Uber’s motion to dismiss.
