5G is the fifth generation of mobile networks around the globe, designed to connect multiple devices and allow higher numbers of users than ever before, with the fastest speeds on the planet. This 5th generation network is allegedly a wireless technology that has higher data speeds with lower latency, better reliability so you won’t drop calls anymore, and increased availability no matter where you live.
Sprint began offering 5G in May of 2019.
Now the prices are the same as T-Mobile plans. The prices for unlimited plans are based on what amenities you want and whether you have a compatible phone, and will increase if you add things like tablets or smart watches to your plan.
After their merger, T-Mobile and Sprint released new online and TV ads for their 5G network coverage which included a lot of implications that changes were imminent. T-Mobile has claimed they will “build American’s largest 5G network” and that “T-Mobile’s 5G network will have “more towers, more engineers, and more coverage” than 5G networks of competitors because of its merger with Sprint. The company also claims they “will deliver unprecedented reach…”
Just as is the case with their prices, the new deals that Sprint is offering for 5G services and devices have varied over the months but are roughly the same as what T-Mobile offers now which includes “free” upgrades if you trade in a specific type of phone for a 5G phone, but you have to sign a new two-year contract, you still have to pay almost $300 for the new phone but it’s spread out over the course of that two-year contract, and they charge you sales tax and fees for “upgrade support”.

Now that Sprint merged with T-Mobile, users are facing many of the same challenges and let downs as other T-Mobile customers.
One of the worst facets of the reality for customers is that modern T-Mobile advertisements after their merger with Sprint have misled customers into believing that as a result of this merger, they can see real benefits to their 5G networks almost immediately, something the BBB has found misleading.
Availability is another problem with Sprint. T-Mobile and Sprint customers will enjoy decent network coverage in dense areas but their overall coverage is still much less than what competitors offer, so if you don’t live in a major city, you might not get any coverage, let alone 5G.
Below is the coverage map for T-Mobile:
As one FairShake customer explained, “I had a contract with Sprint I told them within a 30 day time period that I wasn’t getting good service where I live at. They told me to try to keep service and they would see what they can do give them a few weeks and call them back well I did just that but the signal still was bad and the told me ok we will discontinue service and You want be changed well a few months later there sending me a bill of 1000 dollars.”
Another had similar issues with a big disparity between promises and reality, stating, “The most important being making sure coverage was in my area. When I enquired about it, I was told I would receive “excellent” signal around my address. After agreeing and buying 4 new phones, I get them home to find out I have no signal. I call them and that is when they tell me I don’t have excellent signal, in fact, it is poor to none. I bought a signal booster to hold me over until I get the phones paid off. Then the 5G phones came out. Once again, I was told if I upgraded to 5G my signal would improve drastically. I got the phone and still no signal without a booster and now my phone loses signal not just around my house but in bigger cities like Evansville and Indianapolis.”
