Collections disputes explained

Get T-Mobile Collections to Fix Your Credit Report

Did T-Mobile Collections get it wrong? Learn about your legal rights…

Federal law protects you from a collections department reporting inaccurate or unsupported items on your credit report. If a company like T-Mobile becomes aware the company reported incorrect information to a credit bureau like Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion, the company must inform the credit bureau of its mistake.

If you think that T-Mobile’s Collections Department should remove a negative item from your credit report, here’s how to request it:

CONTACT THE T-MOBILE COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT

Under federal regulations, you can dispute your credit report directly with T-Mobile. To submit the dispute, send a letter containing your identifying information, a description of the dispute, and any supporting evidence to the T-Mobile Collections Department at the address provided on your credit report (if any), or the notice address mentioned in your T-Mobile contract.

Send your letter by certified mail to ensure T-Mobile received it. In most cases, a company like T-Mobile has 30 days after receiving your letter to finish a reasonable investigation and send you the results. If the company agrees that you’re right, then it has to notify the big three credit reporting bureau to delete the incorrect information!

CONTACT THE THREE MAJOR CREDIT BUREAUS (TRANSUNION, EQUIFAX AND EXPERIAN):

If you don’t trust T-Mobile to fix your issue, federal law also requires the credit reporting bureaus to investigate information designated as inaccurate. The credit bureaus investigate your T-Mobile collections dispute by reporting it to the original company. This means reporting to the T-Mobile collections department and the credit bureaus increases your odds of getting positive results.

To report your T-Mobile Collections dispute to the credit bureaus, use the following links: TransUnion customer service click here, Experian customer service dispute click here, and Equifax customer service dispute click here. In most cases, the credit bureaus are responsible for sending you an outcome of an investigation within 30 days of your submission.

MAKE A LEGAL CLAIM AGAINST T-MOBILE THROUGH CONSUMER ARBITRATION:

If T-Mobile’s collections department and the credit bureaus refuse to correct the issue, you can continue to dispute the issue by filing a consumer arbitration case against T-Mobile and contest the incorrect information at a formal hearing.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

If you do not receive the result of a T-Mobile collections department investigation within 30 days of informing the company about the inaccurate credit information, you might qualify to receive up to $1000 in damages under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act.
