Verizon Fios Internet Prices: What You Should be Paying for WiFi

Are you pay too much for your Verizon Fios internet? We can help.

Verizon FiOS provides fast internet to more than 15 million homes primarily throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic States. But what are their costs and how do they compare to other providers? Are there any hidden fees? In this article we review what you should be paying for Wi-Fi and examine the different Verizon Fios internet prices.

Verizon FiOS Pros and Cons

In order to better understand Verizon internet versus the competition, it’s important to look at their pros and cons.

Pros

Cons

Verizon FiOS is a 100% fiber optic Network so it has very fast internet speeds, quality, and reliability

Verizon FiOS is unavailable to people outside of the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic areas

Verizon FiOS tends to add perks to new customers only like incentives for smart home devices or streaming service subscriptions as part of the plan

They have additional fees for the internet router depending on your plan

There are no contracts required so changes can be made at any time

Having no contract also leaves you susceptible to increases in prices without warning

Verizon Fios Low Cost Internet Plans

If you look at a breakdown of the prices, you can see there are three main plans each with a relative download and upload speeds.

Plan

Price

200 Mbps

$39.99 per month

200 Mbps

400 Mbps

$59.99 per month

Gigabit Connection

$79.99 per month

940 Mbps

880  Mbps

However, in order to achieve these monthly prices you have to sign up for auto-pay. All three prices say in the fine print that this is only the cost if you sign up for auto-pay. You also have to sign up for paper free billing. Otherwise your monthly wifi cost can go up.

If you are looking for unlimited internet no upfront cost, Verizon does a lot to waive a lot of the upfront costs, but you will still pay monthly costs.

Moreover, Verizon says that the prices listed above are contingent upon a tax approval and in some cases they might require a deposit meaning there could be an upfront cost.

Another issue is the fine print stipulates that the Wireless speeds they advertised could vary based on how many users do you have, what the limits are for your devices, what network you are using, and other things.  For the Fiat gigabyte plan, the fine print says that average speeds are between 750 and 940 Mbps for downloads and 750 and 880 for uploads. This means that while you might be paying for maximum speeds, most of the time you won’t get them.

They say that it’s up to each user to visit this site, and check what speed is available where they are.

For example: if you live in an area where the maximum speed is 250 Mbps, there’s no point in paying for anything but the cheapest plan they offer because you won’t possibly get anything faster. Still, it’s on you to do the research.

Are there hidden wifi prices?

There are fees and hidden costs that are not advertised when you look at the plans alone. Verizon FiOS low cost internet has no contracts which means you don’t have early termination fees or obligations. However, there is the router rental and installation. If you choose the gigabyte connection plan, the most expensive plan, they will waive the router rental but if you have any of the other plans you still have to buy or rent. This is $15 a month, a bit more expensive than other providers.

The installation fee to set up your internet is $99. If you order online, no matter the plan you select, Verizon says they will waive that fee. But beyond this and regular taxes, there are purportedly no other hidden service fees.

Is Verizon Low cost internet worth it?

Verizon FiOS, if it’s available in your area, is a 100% fiber optic Network which does have very fast downloads and great reliability for your connection. However, it’s simply not available everywhere just yet. That said Verizon does give you the opportunity to bundle a lot of your devices and services and they are a leader in customer satisfaction. In fact, for the last eight years they have received the title of highest customer satisfaction for residential internet services.

Still, if you get a deal because you bundle services and later you decide to change those services, the deal you got goes out the window and you might face higher prices on whatever services you still have.

What if I can’t get Verizon FiOS?

Customers have had many problems with their Verizon internet in the form of misleading advertising whereby they believe they can access Verizon FiOS internet but really they can only access Verizon lowest cost high internet speed plans because Verizon FiOS is available in these areas. Where the Verizon FiOS is not available, high speed internet serves as a DSL service using existing telephone lines, something that’s quite common in rural areas. These plans are without contracts just like Verizon Fios internet plans, and they are seemingly reliable for basic web browsing and email checking.
