And while the company is quite popular for this customizable solution that fits a range of consumers, they are also at the middle of many consumer complaints. In this article we pull together the multiple legal actions and lawsuits taken against the company over the last few years so that you can see what these legal actions mean for you.
Are lawsuits allowed against Ring Alarm?
Unfortunately the answer is a bit complicated and it’s not a simple yes or no. Technically, yes certain lawsuits are allowed against ring alarm, but technically no you cannot file them.
As is the case with most service providers, Ring Alarm has created a user agreement that does a lot to protect the company and the company’s best interest. You will find language in most agreements that say you cannot sue the company in traditional fashions. However, consumers will always have the option to either take the company to a small claims court, or to file a consumer arbitration claim against them.
We are certainly biased, but consumer arbitration is the easier option and usually the better option because it covers a wider range of customer complaints and problems, plus it’s the one we can help you with.
What is a class action lawsuit? Can I file one against Ring Alarm?
A class action lawsuit is a type of lawsuit that allows a whole group of people to present the same complaint against a company. It is meant for situations where hundreds or thousands of people have the same issue with the company.
Unfortunately, if you are a customer with Ring alarm you cannot use this type of legal solution for your problem. The language in your user agreement will usually say you cannot join an existing class action lawsuit nor can you start one.
But at FairShake, we are reinventing the Ring Alarm lawsuit process. We want customers like you to know what options you have, and we want to make those options as accessible as possible. You aren’t alone in wondering what your legal options are, there are plenty of customers out there just like you who have complaints with the company and want to know what they can do about it.
As a Ring Alarm customer, what options do I have for a lawsuit?
So, what options do you have if you can’t join a class-action lawsuit? You have a handful of options depending on the type of problem you have.
People who have financial complaints with the company, maybe a deceptive business practice, an unnecessary charge, or a hidden fee can always file a complaint with their bank or their credit card company. People who have problems with customer service or the service and solutions provided when an issue came about, can always lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Legally though for more significant issues your options come down to one of two things.
Federal Lawsuit: Customer Privacy Exposed Through Camera Hacks
Ring Alarm has found itself at the center of a serious lawsuit in Federal Court alleging that their cameras were hacked on multiple occasions during which times privacy of consumers was exposed and protections for what is supposed to be home security was revealed as inadequate at best.
Settlement: ADT & Ring Alarm Technology Rights
Ring Alarm has settled a lawsuit involving ADT. Known for the video doorbells, they settled in court with ADT in what is called the Zonoff lawsuit. This legal issue has to do with technology rights and in it ADT filed a claim against Ring saying they stole intellectual property for a smart home service platform for security and automation. Ring maintains that they had rightful ownership over the technology because of a previous contract. A temporary halt on Ring business dealings was put forth by a judge, but the suit was settled and the Ring Alarm back in business.
