Can I get a refund from Postmates?

Have you recently used Postmates and you think you deserve a refund? Maybe they overcharged you, they charged you something you didn’t agree to, or there was a problem with what you ordered. That said, can you get a refund from Postmates?

Terms of Service: No Refunds

The official terms for Postmates stipulates that any charges you pay are final and non-refundable. They also stipulate that by using the service you authorize them to charge you the total amount for your order using the payment method you provide and that that amount might be different than what you are quoted with your estimate upon checkout.

The company expresses that they are under no obligation to give you a refund or any type of company credit. However, they also say that they have the power to provide consumers with refunds, with product credit, promotional offers, or some sort of courtesy delivery depending on the situation.

This means that the company wants the majority of the control over any potential refund situation but it also means you have options when things don’t go as they should. 

What about cancellations?

There are situations where you haven’t placed your order yet and the postmate hasn’t arrived at your merchant in which case you can directly cancel through the app and they won’t charge you so you won’t need a refund. There are also situations where the order was placed and the postmate was already on their way to get it in which case you have to pay for the items and a cancellation fee. If everything has already been ordered and picked up and it’s on its way for delivery, you’re charged the full price.

What if something is wrong?

Even then, everything you ordered might be delivered but it’s not what you wanted, it’s not what you ordered or it’s not in the condition that you expected. Maybe the goods are damaged or something else happened. If that’s the case, Postmates asks that you contact customer support in order to review your refund options. It’s recommended that you sign in through your account on the app and then reach out so that you can directly tag the order in question to all of your communication with customer service. This just makes it easier for them to verify what order you’re talking about and what went wrong.

This is also true if there’s a problem from the merchant. This is a situation where Postmates didn’t do anything wrong, but the merchant or third party through which you placed your order and Postmates picked up your order did something wrong. Maybe the order was prepared incorrectly. They do ask that you notify them immediately if there was a problem with the order so that they can issue a potential refund. In fact, the company stipulates that they will debit the refunded amount from the user dashboard because they cannot offer refunds or other credit for mistakes that the merchant made.

Again, the terms of service make it very clear that the company is under no obligation to offer you a refund but it immediately says that they can choose to offer a refund or some type of credit to your account on a case-by-case basis.

What happens if they don’t issue a refund I deserve? 

There are some situations where Postmates simply doesn’t issue the refund that you deserve.
