Can I get a refund from Verizon Fios?

If you have an issue with Verizon Fios, you might deserve a refund. But what does their policy entail? You are not the only one to wonder: can I get a refund from Verizon for you? There are many reasons why you might deserve a refund and we explain how to get it.

Device returns and refunds

If you purchase any type of device or accessory from Verizon, and you purchase it from a specific Verizon store, you can get a refund only from that store.

You can return merchandise to Verizon so long as it is in the original shipping container, with the original receipt, in an undamaged condition, and that receipt has to have your name on it otherwise they will not give you a refund. This has to be done within 14 days of the purchase and they will charge you a $35 fee.

It’s important that you contact customer service to speak with a representative about canceling any services if you are returning a device or accessory as part of your cancellation.

Refund of a credit balance

Verizon Fios will bill in advance for certain services and if you disconnect your service that could result in having a credit balance for your final bill which will automatically be refunded to you so long as you don’t owe any money for any other account. It can take up to 60 days for this to be processed.

If there was a duplicate payment made or an adjustment because of something like an overcharge or double charged to your account, the company will refund you this amount, again, so long as you don’t owe money on any other Verizon account under your name. You have to contact Verizon Fios customer service to initiate this refund.

Refund for your security deposit

If you paid a security deposit for your Verizon Fios order, after 12 months of service Verizon will review your payment history to determine if you are eligible for a security deposit refund. Eligibility is contingent upon your having paid your bill on time, in full for the last 10 out of 12 months, unless you live in Virginia in which case you are eligible after 6 months if you have met the same qualifications for the last five out of six months.

If your refund is approved it will be applied to the credit card or debit card on file, but if there is no payment card on file that refund will just automatically apply to your next bill.

How to Check a Refund Status with Verizon Fios

It can take up to 60 days for Verizon to credit a refund to your account. Verizon Fios lets you monitor the refund by viewing the last 24 months of your bill in the My Fios app. Verizon Fios makes it easy to check the status of your refund. Just sign in to My Verizon and, hover over Billing > select View Bill > Options > Check Refund Status.

If you decide to terminate your service, even if it’s just one aspect of your service, you might see that your next bill doesn’t reflect the refund you were expecting. Verizon Fios makes it clear that if your disconnection of a particular service lands within 5 days before or after your billing date, the very next bill you receive won’t reflect your prorated refund, but the one after, will.

If you use auto pay to pay your Verizon Fios bills, a refund that is approved will simply be sent back to the bank account or card on file for auto-pay.

What happens if Verizon Fios refuses to issue the refund I deserve?

In some cases Verizon might not issue the refund, or they feed you excuses without ever resolving your problem. If they fail to issue a refund that falls under your contract, and is something you legally deserve, you can use consumer arbitration.
