Is Suddenlink wrongly charging you an equipment return fee? FairShake can help.
The first thing you need to know is what equipment has to be returned. Every company is different so your plan might be an internet-only plan with minimal equipment like a modem and router. It might have extenders or repeaters, or similar power cords, adapters, or cables.
Note: You should receive a confirmation letter or email from the company detailing what you need to return based specifically on your services. Be sure to contact Suddenlink if they do not.
Suddenlink expects their materials back immediately. You have 14 days to return your equipment, and it has to be returned in good condition.
Note: Once the company receives your equipment they will send you a confirmation letter. If you don’t return it on time, you might get a much nastier letter.
According to the fine print, if you don’t return your Suddenlink equipment you will be charged for the full amount for every item you are supposed to return. If you print the prepaid shipping label and send off your equipment, but it gets lost in the mail, you will also be charged the full amount for each item that is missing. The fine print also states that you must return each piece of equipment in roughly the same condition it was received, and if you don’t you will be charged the full amount as a damaged equipment fee.
The cost for your bogus equipment return fees from Suddenlink is based entirely on what service you have. The fee for a modem, for example, is $100, and the fee for a router is $80.
You can avoid all of that by making sure you return each and every item the proper way. With Suddenlink you can visit a store or send your equipment in the mail.
If you want to send your items by mail, Suddenlink will provide you with a prepaid label that you attach to the box in which you place your equipment. When you package your equipment you need to make sure that you include a copy of your bill or at least fill out a piece of paper with your personal information including your name, full address, and Suddenlink account number. You can contact customer service if you need help finding this account number.
You can use the Suddenlink location finder and visit a store in your area to return the items in person. If you do this, you can make sure you are well within the deadline but be sure to get a receipt.
Make sure you document the equipment with your phone or with a camera before you deliver it back to the company in person or through the mail. Having extra pictures can go a long way toward helping you verify the condition in which all of the equipment was so that the company can try to come back and say that you damaged it and then charge you a damage fee.
Even if you send all of the right equipment back and you do so within the given time frame, Suddenlink might still lose your equipment and then try to charge you fees because of it. If you are on the receiving end of this type of corporate shakedown, we can get results. Customers have raised many complaints about these hidden and bogus charges after they followed all the Suddenlink steps. Don’t let this happen to you.
